BANE OR RISE OF TECHNOLOGY?
last night, God had the pleasure of chatting with a lovely burmese girl. Halfway throughout the conversation something she said stirred his attention and started making him wonder. Remember back in the day... way back .. during the 80s.... where having a remote for your video
player meant that it was a corded.. and not cordless .. corded remote attached to the video player... and when Singapore wasn't really developed apart from it's HDB flats. There wasn't a
shopping mall in every neighbourhood. This was during the early 80s. Remember how easy it was....despite not being technologically advanced...to communicate with your relatives....we only had the normal garish looking telephone in our homes.... no one had a mobile or even heard of a mobile phone....almost every other night ... the entire family would come down together to eat dinner...you'd have dinner with your cousins ... playing... fighting ...it was a bugout man. You'd see your relatives very frequently and you wouldn't complain about it because you had your cousins to play with.
Fast forward to today's society where we're now truly living in the age of technology where almost everyday another innovative consumer is released on the market. We have webcams, the internet, mobile phones with bluetooth and 3G techlology, email, cordless phones and many other devices to make the size of this planet in which we live in become constantly smaller. All these innovations i describe here are supposed to help make communications with people so much easier. Yet what are our attitudes when it comes to meeting our relatives these days??
It's a 5 minute, hi,bye rush operation. Our usage of the language of english has deteriorated as well thanks to our sms culture. We're too cooped up with our working lives as well. Everyone's willing to work overtime in their company instead of focusing on the more important issues in life they should be working on such as family and friends. We're not bothered at all by the current events that are happening in the world, rather we turn a deaf ear to the state of this planet we live in. Once again with all the technological marvels...certain governments with a lot of power choose to rather pillage and plunder other countries than to use it for the good of mankind...i begin to wonder...was all this intentionally done by the powers that be... did they devise such a brilliant scheme to lead to the downfall of the human free spirit...or is what's happening around us just the actions of random and unplanned consequences...somehow i believe in the former than the latter...Well.. whatever it may seem ... i think all of us owe it to ourselves to really analyse the manner in which we are living right now and try to set things right .... start talking to your family and friends once again and get your priorities right...
